SSI TechXR - Technical Diving Prgram
Looking for extreme action? Check out SSI's Technical Extended Range Program!

SSI TechXR is a well rounded Technical Diving program that is designed to take the recreational diver to an extreme level for their diving adventures.
Whether you are looking for the excitement of deep reef diving, significantly extending your bottom time on shallow dives or the thrill of exploring wrecks located well past 40m (130 feet), SSI TechXR provides the training and experience necessary to complete every new adventure with confidence and skill.
Whatever your current diving ability, extended range diving will challenge you with environments, depths, bottom times, procedures, and equipment not commonly encountered by recreational divers. You will be experiencing advanced levels that require extensive knowledge, enhanced diving skills, and considerable experience.
Advanced Nitrox
Students enrolled in the Advanced Nitrox course will develop the fundamental knowledge, equipment familiarity, and skills needed to participate in extended range diving activities. Even for divers who do not plan to make decompression dives, this course will increase confidence and enhance diving abilities. It is for every diver who wants to dive deeper, longer, or in more challenging environments.
Prerequisites: Certification in Enriched Air Nitrox, minimum age 18 years old, minimum 24 logged dives out of which a minimum of 6 need to be Enriched Air Nitrox Dives
Technical Foundations
Technical Foundations divers will be trained to utilize singles with H-valves or twinsets, and stage cylinders or pony bottles. They will be introduced to advanced dive planning and make training dives as deep as 45m (150 ft). Students will also learn oxygen procedures and may use hyperoxic nitrox gases for limited decompression and to improve off-gas efficiency at safety stops.
Prerequisites: minimum age 18 years old, minimum 50 logged dives, certification in Deep, Stress & Rescue, Enriched Air Nitrox and Advanced Open Water Diver
Decompression Procedures
During this course you will learn to function as a member of a deep dive team and to plan and execute dives requiring more extended stage decompression. You will make training dives as deep as 55 msw/180 fsw while breathing air or optimized Nitrox and refine the proper procedures for making longer decompression stops utilizing a single hyperoxic decompression gas like EAN50 or EAN 75. The course will include hands-on experience with decompression planning software or accelerated decompression planning tables. You will gain the ability to prepare primary, contingency, and bailout plans. You will become experienced at evaluating conditions, anticipating potential problems, and applying the appropriate dive technique to achieve dive objectives.
Prerequisites: minimum age 18 years old, minimum 75 logged dives, certification in Deep, Stress & Rescue, Enriched Air Nitrox and Advanced Open Water Diver, Oxygen Provider, certification as an SSI Tech XR Technical Foundations Diver OR an SSI Tech XR Cave Diver OR an SSI Tech XR Technical Wreck Diver or equivalents.
Advanced Decompression Procedures
This course examines strategies for accelerated decompression using 2 or more stage cylinders. You are presented with the option of multiple Nitrox blends and you will learn advanced ppO2 management procedures to control CNS toxicity dose. Training dives are conducted to depths as deep as 55msw/180 fsw if certified as a decompression procedures diver (or as deep as 65msw/220 fsw if certified for Normoxic Trimix) using two or more gasses for stage decompression.
Prerequisites: minimum age 18 years old, minimum 100 logged dives, certification in Deep, Stress & Rescue, Enriched Air Nitrox, Advanced Open Water Diver, Oxygen Provider and certification in Decompression Procedures or Normoxic Trimix plus 30 logged air dives or normoxic Trimix Dives deeper than 30msw/99fsw and requiring at least two stage decompression stops.
Normoxic Trimix
You will learn the procedures for using Normoxic Trimix blends with any helium concentration and oxygen concentrations as low as 18%. Training dives will be conducted to depths of 60 msw/200 fsw and hyperoxic gas blends will be utilized to complete stage decompression stops.
Prerequisites: minimum age 18 years old, certification in Deep, Stress & Rescue, Enriched Air Nitrox, Advanced Open Water Diver, Oxygen Provider. Decompression Procedures or equivalent with a minimum of 100 logged dives including at least 10 deeper than 30 msw/99 fsw and requiring at least two staged decompression stops OR Certification as an SSI Technical Foundations Diver with at least 100 logged dives including at least 30 deeper than 27 msw/90 fsw and requiring at least 2 staged decompression stops.
Hypoxic Trimix
You will learn the procedures for using Trimix blends with any safe helium/oxygen concentration. Training dives will be conducted to depths as deep as 100 msw/330 fsw and multiple gases including hyperoxic gas blends will be utilized to complete stage decompression stops.
Prerequisites: minimum age 18 years old, certification in Deep, Stress & Rescue, Enriched Air Nitrox, Advanced Open Water Diver, Oxygen Provider. Normoxic Trimix or equivalent with a minimum of 150 logged dives including at least 30 deeper than 30 msw/99 fsw and requiring at least two staged decompression stops, 10 dives deeper than 50 msw/165 fsw requiring at least 2 gas switches.
Gas Blender
You will learn the procedures for producing the Nitrox Gas Blends used by recreational and technical divers. These programs are designed to train technicians directly linked to SSI facilities. The Basic Blending Technician course focuses on the production of recreational Nitrox blends.
Prerequisites: minimum age 18 years old or the age of majority in the jurisdiction where the technician is certified, certification as an Enriched Air Nitrox Diver. Technicians who have never been certified at the diver levels due to medical or other limitations may meet the certification requirements by completing all of the academic requirements for the Enriched Air Nitrox Course including the final exam which must be completed with a grade of 90% or higher.
Advanced Gas Blender
You will learn the procedures for producing the Hyperoxic Nitrox and Trimix Blends used by recreational and technical divers. These programs are designed to train technicians directly linked to SSI facilities. The Advanced Blending Technician Course can be conducted either as an extension of the Basic course or as a stand alone program that expands the technicians abilities to include Trimix and Hyperoxic Blends.
Prerequisites: Certification in Enriched Air Nitrox, minimum age 18 years old, minimum 24 logged dives out of which a minimum of 6 need to be Enriched Air Nitrox Dives.
