PPIEach of our Dive Professional Training Programs is based on our Diver Diamond Methodology, which focuses on the proper knowledge, skills, equipment, and experience required in helping you become a highly qualified instructor.

Proper Knowledge. SSI's Dive Professional Training Programs will help you acquire the knowledge to help new divers become confident and comfortable underwater.

Proper Skills. During SSI's Dive Professional Training, you will learn from an experienced instructor who will teach and mentor you. Their goal is to make sure you are a comfortable and confident teacher.

Proper Equipment. You will learn the specific equipment requirements for your dive store. This information will help in teaching your students about the importance of owning their own diving equipment, as well as selling them Total Diving Systems.

Proper Experience. Your mentor has a wealth of experience to share with you that would take years to learn on your own.

OWIOpen Water Instructor (OWI)

Being a Dive Control Specialist plus enrolling in the Instructor Training Course which finishes with an Instructor Evaluation equals Open Water Instructor (OWI). As an Open Water Instructor you can teach and issue certifications for Indoor Diver, Scuba Diver, Junior Open Water Diver, Open Water Diver, Advanced Adventurer, Scuba Skills Update, Try Scuba, Try Scuba Diving, Enriched Air Nitrox, and Diver Stress & Rescue.

Specialty Instructor (SPI)

When you are certified as an SSI Open Water Instructor, you can also qualify for further SSI Specialty Instructor ratings. To teach additional SSI Specialties, you will need to qualify by attending a Specialty Instructor seminar, co-teaching or by resume. These Specialty programs include: Altitude Diving, Boat Diving, Cavern Diving, Computer Diving, Deep Diving, Digital Underwater Photography, Dry Suit Diving, Equipment Techniques, Ice Diver, Independent Diver, Navigation, Night/Limited Visibility Diving, Perfect Buoyancy, Science of Diving, Search & Recovery, Shark Diver, Waves, Tides & Currents, Wreck Diving and more to come.

Advanced Open Water Instructor (AOWI)

Once you have four Specialty Instructor certifications and you have issued 15 Specialty program certifications, you will automatically be upgraded to Advanced Open Water Instructor. After certification, Advanced Open Water Instructors are qualified to teach, supervise, or issue certifications for Advanced Open Water/Junior Advanced Open Water, Dive Guide, Science of Diving, Divemaster and Snorkel Instructor programs, plus any additional Specialties you are qualified to teach.

Advanced Nitrox Instructor - The Entry in Technical Diving for Instructors

Advanced Nitrox InstructorContent: Students enrolled in the Technical Foundations course will develop the fundamental knowledge, equipment familiarity, and skills needed to participate in extended range diving activities. Even for divers who do not plan to make decompression dives, this course will increase confidence and enhance diving abilities. It is for every diver who wants to dive deeper, longer, or in more challenging environments.

Prerequisites for the SSI TechXR Advanced Nitrox Instructor Rating:

  • SSI Deep Diving Instructor
  • SSI EAN InstructorMinimum
  • 10 EAN Nitrox Divers certified
  • Minimum 25 logged EAN Nitrox Dives

Technical Foundations Instructor - The use of the equipment for Technical Diving

Technical Foundation InstructorContent: Technical Foundations divers will be trained to utilize singles with H-valves or twinsets, and stage cylinders or pony bottles. They will be introduced to advanced dive planning and make training dives as deep as 42m (140 ft). Students will also learn oxygen procedures and may use up to EAN50 for contingency decompression and to improve off-gas efficiency at safety stops.

Prerequisites for the SSI TechXR Advanced Nitrox & Technical Foundations Instructor Rating(s):

  • SSI Deep Diving- and SSI Diver Stress & Rescue- and SSI EAN Nitrox Specialty Instructor
  • SSI Navigation- or Wreck Diving- or Cavern Specialty Instructor, SSI Advanced Open Water Instructor
  • SSI TechXR Technical Foundations Diver or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 EAN Nitrox Divers certified
  • Minimum 25 logged EAN Nitrox DivesMinimum 20 logged Dives deeper the 24m (75 ft)

Decompression Procedures Instructor - Planing of safe Decompression Dives in Technical Diving

Decompression Procedures InstructorContent: During this course you will learn to function as a member of a deep dive team and to plan and execute dives requiring stage decompression. You will make training dives as deep as 165 fsw while breathing air or optimized Nitrox and learn the proper procedures for making decompression stops utilizing a single decompression gas - EAN50.

The course includes hands-on experience with decompression planning software. You will gain the ability to prepare primary, contingency, and bailout plans. You will become experienced at evaluating conditions, anticipating potential problems, and applying the appropriate dive technique to achieve dive objectives.

Prerequisites for the SSI TechXR Decompression Procedures Instructor & Advanced Decompression Procedures Instructor Rating(s):

  • SSI Deep Diving- and SSI Diver Stress & Rescue- and SSI EAN Nitrox Specialty Instructor
  • SSI Navigation- or Wreck Diving- or Cavern Specialty Instructor, SSI Advanced Open Water Instructor
  • SSI TechXR Technical Foundations Instructor or equivalent
  • SSI TechXR Decompression Procedures Diver or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 Divers as Technical Foundations Diver certified or equivalent
  • Minimum 30 logged Decompression Dives

Advanced Decompression Procedures Instructor - The Strategies for Accelerated Decompression in Technical Diving

Advanced Decompression Procedures InstructorContent: This course examines strategies for accelerated decompression. You are presented with the option of multiple Nitrox blends and the use of 100% oxygen. You will learn advanced ppO2 management procedures to control CNS toxicity dose. Training dives are conducted to depths as deep as 180 fsw and two gasses are used for stage decompression.

Prerequisites for the SSI TechXR Decompression Procedures Instructor & Advanced Decompression Procedures Instructor Rating(s):

  • SSI Deep Diving- and SSI Diver Stress & Rescue- and SSI EAN Nitrox Specialty Instructor
  • SSI Navigation- or Wreck Diving- or Cavern Specialty Instructor, SSI Advanced Open Water Instructor
  • SSI TechXR Technical Foundations Instructor or equivalent
  • SSI TechXR Decompression Procedures Diver or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 Divers as Technical Foundations Diver certified or equivalent
  • Minimum 30 logged Decompression Dives

Normoxic Trimix Instructor - The Entry to Education with Trimix

Normoxic Trimix Instructor

Content: You will learn the procedures for using Normoxic Trimix blends with helium concentrations as great as 30%. Training dives will be conducted to depths of 180 fsw and EAN50 will be utilized to complete stage decompression stops.

Normoxic Trimix is optional.

Prerequisites for the SSI TechXR Normoxic Trimix Instructor Rating:

  • SSI Deep Diving- and SSI Diver Stress & Rescue- and SSI EAN Nitrox Specialty Instructor
  • SSI Navigation- or Wreck Diving- or Cavern Specialty Instructor, SSI Advanced Open Water Instructor
  • SSI TechXR Technical Foundations Instructor or equivalent
  • SSI TechXR Normoxic Trimix Diver or equivalent
  • Minimum 10 Diver as Technical Foundations Diver certified or equivalent
  • Minimum 30 logged Decompression Dives
